HOUSTON -- Jadeveon Clowney is already showing how dominant he can be in the NFL. The top overall pick in the draft made big hits behind the line on consecutive plays and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown pass to DeVier Posey in the Texans 32-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night. Houston selected Clowney out of South Carolina to form a powerful 1-2 pass-rushing attack with J.J. Watt. Watt sat out Saturdays game and Clowney seized the defensive spotlight on Atlantas second series. He burst through the line untouched and crashed into Antone Smith almost the second the running back took a handoff from Matt Ryan. On the next snap, Clowney whipped around left tackle Sam Baker and smacked down Ryan for a 7-yard loss. "Its work," Clowney said. "You just got to work and get after the guys, go hard and hope for something good. You just have to do your job." Jonathan Grimes returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and Andre Hal returned an interception 64 yards for another score for the Texans (1-1), who were significantly better than they were in a 32-0 loss to Arizona last week. Clowney set the tone for the turnaround performance. "When a guy makes a defensive play thats a big hit, it really lights up your sideline," Texans coach Bill OBrien said. The Falcons (1-1), meanwhile, have plenty to fix and may have taken a huge blow on their offensive line. Baker left on a cart in the second quarter with a right knee injury and Atlanta coach Mike Smith didnt know the severity after Saturdays game. Baker started 16 games in 2012, but played in just four games last season because of a left knee injury that required surgery in November. Ryan went 3 for 7 in a quarter and a half of work and wide receiver Julio Jones caught two passes in his first live-game action since he broke his right foot in Week 5 last season. The Falcons finished with 248 yards and 19 first downs. "We just had a few plays here and there that kind of got off schedule, and when you do that against a good defence its tough to overcome those mistakes," Ryan said. "We had opportunities to make plays, we just didnt make them." Fitzpatrick completed 9 of 12 passes for the Texans, guiding the offence much more smoothly than he did against the Cardinals. OBrien said Fitzpatricks performance carried over from a strong week at practice. "Hes getting more and more comfortable with the system and he went out there and played a good game for our team," OBrien said. He went 3 for 5 and had a 10-yard scramble on Houstons initial scoring drive and rookie Alfred Blue, a sixth-round pick from LSU, finished it with runs of 10, 3 and 1 yard to put the Texans in front. Sean Renfree replaced Ryan with 6:20 left in the first half and led the Falcons on an 11-play, 66-yard touchdown drive. Renfree, competing with T.J. Yates for the backup job behind Ryan, found Devin Hester on a 12-yard pass with 1:32 left for the tying score. Rookie Tom Savage played one series before Fitzpatrick returned to lead the Texans in the final 90 seconds before halftime. Fitzpatrick had a 15-yard scramble and then connected with Keshawn Martin for a 31-yard gain to the Falcons 15. A Falcons penalty moved the ball to the Atlanta 8, and Fitzpatrick avoided the rush to his right before finding Posey in the back of the end zone with 19 seconds left. Case Keenum, competing with Savage for the backup role behind Fitzpatrick, started the second half for the Texans and guided a drive to the Atlanta 22 before Kemal Ishmael intercepted him near the goal line. Houstons special teams and defence took over from there. Anthony Denham blocked Matt Boshers punt from the end zone, and Grimes scooped up the loose ball and ran 17 yards for a score. Yates played the fourth quarter under constant pressure, and tried a futile tackle attempt on Hals return. Matt Bullough also intercepted Yates, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. Notes: Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Brian Cushing were among the inactive players for Houston. ... Second-round draft pick Xavier Sua-Filo started at right guard for the Texans. Sua-Filo has also been practicing at left tackle and working on centre-quarterback exchanges in practice. ... Justin Tuggle started for Cushing and made two tackles against his fathers old team. Miller said Thursday through an NFL spokesman that he never received the video. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasnt authorized to release details of the case, said he doesnt know if Miller ever saw the DVD or opened the package. His only communication with the NFL was a 12-second voicemail on April 9 from league offices confirming receipt of the package, in which a woman says, Youre right. Its terrible. The official told the AP two weeks ago that he sent the video to the NFL, but asked the AP not to report that he had addressed the package to Miller. He eliminated that restriction Thursday.Since the NFLPA and NFL have launched separate investigations into the league and the Ravens handling of Ray Rices case, I want to make a few things clear. No one from the NFL ever asked me for the inside-elevator video, the official said Thursday. I mailed it anonymously to Jeff Miller because hes their head of security. I attached a note saying: Ray Rice elevator video. You have to see it. Its terrible. I provided a number for a disposable cellphone and asked for confirmation that it was received. I knew there was a possibility Mr. Miller may not get the video, but I hoped it would land in the right hands.Miller, in London preparing for the Raiders-Dolphins game Sunday, issued a statement to the AP Thursday night through an NFL spokesman.I unequivocally deny that I received at any time a copy of the video, and I had not watched it until it was made public on September 8, he said.Miller joined the league in 2008 as director of strategic security and was promoted to chief security officer in April 2011. Before joining the NFL, Miller spent nearly six years as the commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police. He worked for the state police for 24 years. At the NFL, Millers responsibilities include overseeing investigative programs and services. He is also in charge of event security and game integrity. When players get arrested, the NFLs corps of investigators rarely get involved, leaving that to local law enforcement. The leagues security operatives gather court documents and pollice reports available to the public, but dont ordinarily interview witnesses or gather evidence independently.ddddddddddddIt remains unclear what happened to the video once it arrived at league offices. There are two NFL executives named Jeffrey Miller, but the law enforcement official didnt know that, and intended it to go to the chief of security. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the other Jeffrey Miller a€” who is the senior vice-president of health and safety policy a€” did not report receiving the video. The law enforcement official said he wanted to make sure the NFL had the video before deciding on Rices punishment. My intention wasnt to bring down Commissioner Goodell or anyone else at the NFL, he said.He said he didnt know the identity of the woman who left him the voicemail. He said he chose Miller because of his law enforcement background, even though he didnt know him personally.Rice, a former Pro Bowl running back for the Baltimore Ravens, was arrested in Atlantic City on an assault charge for hitting Janay Palmer in February. A police summons stated that Rice had struck Palmer with his hand, knocking her unconscious. Rice has been accepted into New Jerseys pretrial intervention program, which enabled him to avoid jail time and could result in having the charge expunged from his record.Initially, Goodell suspended Rice a€” who has since married Palmer a€” for two games. After criticism, Goodell announced new stiffer penalties for future domestic violence cases. After video of the punch in the casino elevator was released, the Ravens cut Rice and Goodell suspended him indefinitely.League and Ravens officials said they requested the video from law enforcement but were denied. ESPN and others have reported that the Ravens had a detailed description of the video shortly after Rice was arrested. After the AP reported that the video was sent to NFL headquarters, Goodell announced that former FBI Director Robert Mueller would lead an internal investigation. That probe is ongoing, and there is no timetable for its completion. The law enforcement official said he does not want to speak to NFL investigators, and Mueller, who is now in private practice with a Washington law firm with deep ties to the NFL, has no subpoena power. I know nothing else about this case, the official said.Former FBI Chief of Staff Aaron Zebley, who is working with Mueller on the investigation, didnt immediately return a call seeking comment. ' ' '
